Two Group Races Rapidly Approaching!

The Thruston Summer Solstice 5K was a blast last weekend! Chad and Morgan took first in their age groups, and a new Denton Runners tradition was born... From now on, after all White Rock races, those who care to can put on their goggles and join us for a short open water swim while we wait for results! Trust me folks, after running as fast as you can in 95 degrees with the sun in your face, that water feels like heaven.

Also, there may be a Denton Runners HASH run in the works... Stay tuned...

Now, for our upcoming group races! The Keep Austin Weird 5K is this weekend, June 28, at 6:00 PM. Come join us for the festival and run. Then, the weekend of the 4th, we will be participating in the DRC Independence 5K (morning of July 5) - come run off some of that beer and junk food you put away the day before! Websites for the events:

www.keepaustinweirdfest.com

www.dallasrunningclub.com

Hope to see a lot of you out at these two events, especially the DRC 5K!

Keep running!

Texas is Faster than Hawaii!

Just wanted you to know I represented our group in the Hawaii Race Against Domestic Violence 5K this past weekend and placed first in my age group with a time of 21:52! We clearly have the upper hand. Keep running fellow Texans!

SUMMER RUN/RACE SCHEDULE!

Hola my fellow runners!

So summer is just around the corner, and that means that RACE season is just around the corner - everyone is getting geared up for the fall races, so that means that it is time for US to get it into gear! The summer group runs will begin next week, on Monday, May 26. Stay tuned for the official schedule - I'll be sending out an e-mail to those on the e-mail list, and posting the schedule here as well. It looks like we'll have runs almost every day of the week!

Now, our summer RACE schedule is also set (it's still open to revision, but we've basically got it down), so here are the races we will be participating in this summer. Again, there will be more info on these events in the next e-mail when I send the official word document run/race schedule.

Our summer races:

DRC Bloomin 4 Mile - June 7

Thruston Summer Solstice 5K - June 22

Keep Austin Weird 5K - June 28

DRC Independence 5K - July 4

Plano Pacers Ice Cream 5K - July 26

The Colony Road Runners Prediction 5K - July 29

Life Without Limits 5K - August 16

The Hottest Half (Half Marathon) - August 24

First Official Denton Runners Race?

Ok, as a running club, one thing I really want for us to do is start sponsoring some more races in our area - in case you haven't noticed, they are currently few and far between. To get started, it looks like we will be co-sponsoring a 5K this fall with the Recreation and Leisure Studies Students Association benefitting the Denton Boys and Girls Club. The actual race will be in Trophy Club, but I believe that advertising will be primarily in Denton. I am currently trying to get RunOn! to help us sponsor the event by providing race equipment such as time-clocks, chips, etc. Regardless, I think our group will play a part in this event, which will be a great way for us to gain more visibility - as well as more members!

I will keep you all updates as this progresses, but I hope some of you might be willing to pitch in as we draw nearer to the day of the event!

For now - keep running!

Buffalo Boogie

Well, Lindsay, Rusty the Dog, and myself did the Buffalo Boogie this Saturday - Rusty gets the biggest praise for this race because he actually managed to go the whole day without knocking any children or small animals over. In fact, he did quite well with the other dogs after the 5K got his energy level down! I placed second in my bracket, and Lindsay placed first in the "keeping your crazed canine under control" bracket. It was a good time.

Rusty has his very cool Fort Worth Nature Center official race bandanna on in this pic, as you can see - this was post-race, I don't know how Lindsay managed to lift that much dog just then, but I was impressed.

Bud Run "Results"

For those of you who didn't make it to the Bud Run 10K (i.e. everyone except Ross and I), I wanted to give you a taste of what you missed out on... unlimited free beer, and the coolest trophies you've ever seen...

In case you weren't sure, yes, those trophies are made out of beer cans (Ross got first in the old guys bracket, I got second in the young/attractive girls bracket). I'd say the Fort Worth Runners Club has given us something to live up to.

Pre-Summer Info Meeting/Dinner/Party!!

Hey folks!!

OUR MEETING WILL BE MAY 14, 2008! Time is TBA.

So as we're getting in gear for the summer training months, we thought it would be a good idea to get everyone in the same place to talk about what the next few months will look like for the club. We will discuss summer group run days/times, races that the group will be participating in during may/june/july, as well as looking ahead to marathons and halfs in the fall.

Remember that if you're willing to lead out on runs this summer, you need to let me know PRIOR TO this meeting so I can share that information with everybody. You don't need to be a running pro to lead out - a good test for you would be if you can talk easily through the distance of the run you would like to lead on. You should be able to encourage other runners in the group - especially at the end!!

We'll be meeting at Emily and Clay Rozell's house over on Austin Street by the TWU campus - I don't have their exact address as of right now, but I'll be putting it up in the next day or so. DINNER WILL BE PROVIDED - because I'm not above bribing you to come, and if the Rozell's give it the ok, we'll make it BYOB as well (but they've got a little one so don't assume for right now that we're doing that). I just want to get everyone together to have a good time and get on the same page about the next few months.

So keep checking back for the Rozell's address and the meeting time, they'll be up soon, and come see us on May 14 for some good times and good information!
